Canberra Raiders enforcer Hudson Young has escaped suspension for a late shot on Kalyn Ponga in his team’s upset win over the Knights in Newcastle on Thursday night.
Young was sin binned for a late and high hit on Ponga who was back peddling after offloading a pass.
The Raiders forward, who also scored the last try of the match, was instead fined $750.
Meanwhile, Melbourne Storm legend Cameron Smith has backed his former club to come out firing against three-time defending champions Penrith at AAMI Park.
Despite missing Cameron Munster, the Storm have an incredible record pushing them forward as they have not lost a round one match since 2001.
“They really gear themselves to be at their best for round one,” Smith said on SEN.
“…With everything they do with their preparation and game plan.
“The one thing that stands out from them is their fitness – they seem to stand out from the sides they come up against.
“If they’re not at their best footy wise their fitness will get them over the line.”
