Gold Coast Titans star AJ Brimson is set to face the full wrath of the NRL after posting to his Instagram account on Tuesday afternoon revealing a $10,000 win in the Melbourne Cup on outsider Knight’s Choice which was paying $101 to win the race that stops the nation.
The 26-year-old Queensland Maroons and Australian Nines representative raised eyebrows as the screenshot showed previous bets which appear to show him betting on rugby league matches which is against the rules of the game.
Brimson had tried to wipe out the bets from the image prior to uploading to his social media page.
Brimson quickly deleted the post.
The Gold Coast utilities manager Jim Banaghan has hosed water on the situation saying it was actually Brimson’s mother’s account.
“It is all going to die a very simple death because the account is his mother’s and the reason she backed it is because her surname now is Knight,” Banaghan told AAP.
“She put a fan’s bet of $100 on it and that is the only bet she has had in the last seven months.
“The previous [bet] was on her son to score a try.
“It is all her account.
“I have got the message flows from her to him, the whole lot, and it is on her account.”
