‘His management chased us first’: Roosters throw shade as David Fifita backflips on Gold Coast exit

Star forward David Fifita will be at the Gold Coast Titans after sensationally backflipping on his deal at the Sydney Roosters for 2025 on beyond.

Both clubs released statements at the same time on Wednesday morning with the Roosters revealing Fifita had gone to the club with doubts over the move.

“The Sydney Roosters have withdrawn their offer to David Fifita,” roosters.com.au reported.

“Despite his management making the initial approach to the Club and Fifita personally informing the Sydney Roosters’ Chairman and Head Coach of his intent to join the Club last Thursday, Fifita has since expressed doubt about his decision.

“Consequently, the Club has elected to withdraw its offer with view that it is in the Roosters’ best interests.

“The Club wishes Fifita all the best.”

It was originally reported that Fifita had turned down more money to stay at the Gold Coast and many believed the Queensland second-rower was set to sign with the Penrith Panthers before the Chooks swooped in at the final second.

Fifita will now be at the Titans for 2025 and 2026.

“I’m extremely grateful for the time and interest shown in me over the past two weeks, but upon further reflection, I have made the decision that I want to remain a Titan beyond 2024,” Fifita said.

“I’m excited about the direction the team is taking and being close to home, and my family has been central to helping me make this decision.”

Attention for the Roosters will now return to several of their own forwards including Angus Crichton who conceded the club had yet to open contract negotiations with him.
