Premiership-winning five-eighth Matthew Johns believes Melbourne looked tired in their big qualifying final loss to Brisbane at Suncorp Stadium with the Sydney Roosters a shot at causing an upset at AAMI Park this weekend.

Speaking on SEN, Johns specifically called out Kangaroos representative Harry Grant.

“I thought they looked tired,” Johns said.

“Particularly Harry Grant and if I’m Craig Bellamy, I’m not letting Harry put his boots on at training until the final session. Munster has been unusually subdued (in the last few weeks) and I’m just not sure what is going on there.

“A lot of those players have played a lot of big football in the past few seasons.

‘It’s been a World Cup year, they’ve had State of Origin and it’s telling.

“It’s been a long time since I saw a Melbourne Storm pack get dominated like that.

“They are lacking explosiveness… It’s a big problem. If you’re not winning the battle of the middle, you’re halves don’t get a look in.”
