‘We don’t turn on our own’: Barrett backs Fittler as the man to lead Blues into future despite another series loss

New South Wales Blues great Trent Barrett has backed Brad Fittler to keep his job despite the Blues staring down the barrel of a clean sweep and a loss at home in the dead rubber tonight at Accor Stadium.

Speaking on SEN, Barrett believed the state shouldn’t turn their back on the under siege coach.

“We weren’t far away from winning that first game,” Barrett said.

“We probably could’ve and I’m sure our coaching staff and Freddy are feeling the same.

“It frustrates me a little bit, as an ex-player… I was on the coaching staff with Laurie (Daley) and Sticky (Ricky Stuart) – the unwritten rule from an ex-NSW player or coach is that we don’t turn on our own.

“Freddy, I think is the best man for the job.”

Fittler and his assistant coach Greg Alexander have been highly criticised for the losses in Game I and Game II where the Blues lacked leadership or tactics.
