Campbelltown Stadium will soon have it’s own sports centre of excellence with Premier Dominic Perrottet announcing the NSW government is set to pump $16.7 million into the project which will sit behind the stadium alongside Rose Payten Drive.

The project is being backed by the state, federal, local governments along with Western Sydney University.

“We are quite advanced in our design works, and now we will work with our partners to finalise them as soon as we can,’’ local mayor George Greiss told the South West Voice website.

“I’d like to thank the NSW Government and our other important project partners for helping to bring this project into the heart of Campbelltown, enhancing our signature sport precinct at Campbelltown Stadium,” Cr Greiss said.

“Working with Western Sydney University as a key partner in this project, the Centre of Excellence will be a critical hub for education and sports science in our region, where our local people can study and work in a world class facility,” he said.

“With the support of our local teams Wests Tigers and Macarthur FC, the Centre of Excellence will also help to nurture the next generation of elite athletes across the Macarthur region.”

It comes seven years after Wests Tigers decided against a centre of excellence at Western Sydney University at Macarthur Square when millions of dollars were guaranteed by the federal and state governments.

Just a month later, a proposed training facility at the back of Liverpool was also squashed.

Since then, Wests Tigers have officially opened their new centre at Concord in Sydney’s inner west.
