The almost two-decade-long stoush between George Piggins and the South Sydney Rabbitohs is officially over with the club legend’s life membership to be reinstated.
Piggins and his wife Nolene have been at loggerheads with the club ever since the club was privatised in 2006 under the ownership of Russell Crowe.
A former Rabbitohs hooker, Piggins would then go on to coach and run the club as CEO before leading the club’s fight to be reinstated into the top competition after being banished during the Super League years.
“It is very pleasing for all South Sydney Members that George and Nolene, both heroes of our club, have resumed their rightful place as Life Members and there could be no more unifying moment for our great club on the cusp of another exciting season,” Souths chairman Nick Pappas said after the news broke.
