New South Wales Blues prop Payne Haas has revealed coach Brad Fittler texted him prior to selecting him to confirm his ongoing contract saga at the Brisbane Broncos wouldn’t be a distraction.

Haas has faced backlash from fans and the media alike as he new player agent seeks a contract upgrade on his reported current deal worth upwards of $800,000.

“He gave me a text the night before I played the Titans asking if I was going to be distracted and I told him I’d be fine,” Haas told nswrl.com.au.

“I told him ‘It’s just footy’ and I know I have a job to do both for the Broncs and for NSW.

“We talked it through. He knows that whatever the task is at hand, I’m going to be right to see it through.”

The Blues face Queensland in Origin I on June 8 at Accor Stadium.
