Most can’t believe the Penrith Panthers actually have to front up to the NRL judiciary tonight to fight Api Koroisau’s grade one contrary contact charge from their win over the Sydney Roosters on the weekend.
In an innocuous incident, Koroisau was reacting to Roosters enforcer Jared Waerea-Hargreaves who incited a spot fire at Suncorp Stadium.
The Panthers are fighting the charge on principal – much like the Roosters did earlier this year when Sio Siua Taukeiaho was threatened with a small fine.
Incredibly, Koroisau is facing a one match ban due to what is believed to be previous incidents.
One Panthers fan asked on Twitter, “Shouldn’t even be going to the judiciary. What is doing, seriously?”
Another said, “Can’t believe Api was charged for protecting his team mate. No punches, let it go, but scared the Judiciary will hang the origin debacle over his head.”
According to The Sydney Morning Herald, Panthers coach Ivan Cleary will actually lead the defense of Koroisau.
