Brandon Smith will be in rival colours for the 2022 season after Storm grant him early release

Melbourne Storm cult hero Brandon Smith is on the look out for a new club in 2022 with the Storm granting him permission to leave Victoria early.

The Kiwi premiership-winning is contracted for 2022 but the Storm are not standing in his way of finding a new home as a full-time dummy half.

“Brandon is a wonderful player and great person to have around the club,” Storm football manager Frank Ponissi said

“Given he is now a premiership player, national representative and has been a valuable asset to our team over the last few years, any move will only be considered with appropriate arrangements put in place.

“The club has shown we are comfortable with negotiating these requests while also maintaining our performance on the field, given we were in the same position with Josh Addo-Carr only 12 months ago.

“We look forward to having Brandon back on the track on January 4 along with his teammates as they prepare for the 2021 season.”

Meanwhile, Super League-bound five-eigth Josh Reynolds has admitted to being a ‘dud buy’ for Wests Tigers in his three seasons at Concord.

Reynolds is now off to Hull FC for the 2022 season.
