Melbourne Storm legend Cameron Smith may play on in season 2021 at a rival club but someone might want to show him what just happened to Tampa Bay Buccaneers recruit Tom Brady in his first outing for his new team in the NFL.
Smith has been linked to a shift at the Gold Coast Titans – a career move similar to Patriots icon Brady who made waves in the NFL off season by announcing he was leaving New England to join the Buccaneers.
But things didn’t go to plan for Brady in Week 1 against New Orleans and the great man copped a hiding for it on Twitter.
The Bucs floundered and eventually went down 34-23 with Brady becoming the first player since 2013 to go three straight games throwing a ‘pick-six’ – a pass intercepted by an opponent for a touchdown.
Brady has done everything in the NFL and had an illustrious career at the Patriots – similar to what Smith has done at the Storm.
But there is always the risk that if Smith plays on and leaves Melbourne for the Titans he will have played a season too-long.
Nobody is saying Brady is done just yet but it wasn’t an inspiring start.
Respected NFL journalist Colin Cowherd questioned if Brady had changed or was it the talent around him since leaving Massachusetts.
“Same Tom Brady. Better weapons [at Patriots],” Cowherd tweeted.
Aaron Nagler posted: “Tom Brady has thrown a pick-six in each of his last two games. Aaron Rodgers has thrown two in his entire career. Really makes you think.”
Even basketball legend ‘Magic’ Johnson got in on it.
“Drew Brees and the Saints outperformed Tom Brady and the Bucs on both sides of the ball in their 34-23 win this afternoon!”
