Under siege St George Illawarra coach Paul McGregor says he understands the pressure he is under but is not scared of losing his job despite the Dragons going 0-4 to start the season.

The Dragons slumped to another defeat against the lowly Canterbury Bulldogs on Sunday – losing 22-2.

“I’m not scared,” McGregor said.

“I’m an optimist but I’m a realist and I know our team’s not playing well enough at the moment. I’m the coach of that, I accept the blame.

“Our first two games we were in a position to win both of them. Then we’ve had 10 weeks off and our last two games since we’ve been back have been poor.

“There’s conversation around it every day which doesn’t help your team, doesn’t help your players, doesn’t help the club, doesn’t help the fans and the sponsors.

“I’ve certainly got the backing of the players and the staff and no one from the club’s come forward and said anything to me.

“If that decision’s made, I’ll wear it. I’ll be disappointed obviously, but I understand the situation.”

It comes as it was reported on Tuesday morning that the Dragons board were organising an emergency meeting with speculation rife that McGregor could be sacked today.

According to The Sydney Morning Herald, McGregor is aware of the meeting which has been brought forward from next Tuesday.
