St George Illawarra Dragons captain Cameron McInnes has a simple message for players who refuse to get their flu shot – play by the rules.
The Saints hooker told ABC Grandstand he believes in freedom of choice but with so much at stake, all playing should be getting the jab.
“Our playing group had our flu shots three weeks ago, we got permission to do that,” McInnes said.
“Without getting too political or into beliefs, I think that if there is a rule in place in order for us to play – you need to do it.
“If you don’t want to do it, that’s your choice … I believe there are freedom of choice, but you have to understand tnere are consequences of that.
“The way society is at the moment and the risks involved, we are fortunate as rugby league players to do what we love and do things outside of the rules. We need to make sure we are being safe for the rest of the population.
“I’m hopeful there can be a resolution … I would hate for all the hard work done by the RLPA and NRL be undone by a few guys.”
