Bennet Omalu, the man made famous by Will Smith in the movie ‘Concussion’, has been shot down by several medical experts currently studying CTE and has been accused of spreading ‘false propaganda about the disease’.

In a recent report, The Washington Post interviewed more than 50 experts in neurodegenerative disease and brain injuries saying Omalu “dramatically overstates the known risks of CTE and contact sports, fueling misconceptions about the disease.”

These experts are now arguing that Omalu may not have even diagnosed CTE correctly as his definitions are so broad that it could include ‘healthy brains’ under CTE.

It’s also been revealed that the common misconception that Omalu was the one that discovered CTE is also incorrect.

Omalu no longer studies the effects of CTE and instead spends his time doing public speaking gigs and charging top dollar.

Dan Perl, professor of pathology at the Uniformed Services University is one of the experts against Omalu.

“My God, if people were actually following [Omalu’s] criteria, the prevalence of this disease would be enormous, and there’s absolutely no evidence to support that.”

Omalu believes many contact sports, including youth sports, should be banned.

“His criteria don’t make sense to me,” added Ann McKee, neuropathologist at Boston University’s CTE Center.

“I don’t know what he’s doing….his criteria for diagnosing CTE are all over the map.

“This is the problem. People lump me with him and they lump my work with him, and my work is nothing like this.

“I don’t know where he’s coming up with those recommendations.

“I don’t think he is basing them on any data.”
