Wests Tigers are again in the box seat to win the signature of superstar Latrell Mitchell after the North Queensland Cowboys confirmed the arrival of Valentine Holmes from the New York Jets.

Mitchell was reportedly set to make a decision between Wests Tigers and Cowboys after sitting down with the Cowboys in Townsville last week.

The Cowboys however announced Mitchell’s arrival on Sunday night on a six-year deal.

“This is a wonderful signing for our club,” Cowboys Director of Football Peter Parr said.

“It wasn’t long ago that Valentine was one of the best players in the competition before his courageous decision to go to the NFL. His form in 2018 was as good as any player in the NRL, particularly in the second half of that season.

“He’s a proven big game player, he’s won a grand final and he’s played some terrific football for both Queensland and Australia.

Wests Tigers are very confident they have their man in Mitchell for season 2021 and will make the two-time premiership-winner their first choice fullback ahead of pocket rocket Corey Thompson.

The Daily Telegraph, however, confirmed on Monday that the Gold Coast Titans are keen to lure Mitchell to the sunset strip and are serious about offering Mitchell a bigger deal than the reported $1 million-a-year Wests Tigers are putting forward.

But it’s understood the Titans would have to offer Mitchell an outrageous amount to pry him away from Wests Tigers.
