The positional switch that could prolong Storm legend Cameron Smith’s career even longer

The greatest hooker to ever play the game – Cameron Smith – is on the verge of becoming the Melbourne Storm’s full-time halfback for season 2020 in what would be a monumental switch by coach Craig Bellamy.

Smith has played a little bit of first receiver in recent seasons and a move to 7 would allow young gun Brandon Smith to move into dummy half full-time. Ryan Papenhuyzen would lock in fullback, pushing Jahrome Hughes to centre to cover for the exit of Will Chambers.

The Sydney Morning Herald revealed on Tuesday evening that Smith had met with Storm officials about the move.

36-year-old Smith has played 414 NRL games.
