Melbourne Storm officials were left stunned on Saturday night after their team’s loss to the Sydney Roosters with skipper Cameron Smith revealing he doesn’t know if he will play again on 2020 despite having a huge contract agreed upon with the Storm.
Channel Nine’s Danny Weidler revealed on 100% Footy that the Storm are ‘stunned’ by Smith’s comments.
“The Melbourne Storm are very surprised at the answer Billy Slater managed to get out of Cameron Smith,” Weidler said.
“Their view is that he is playing for them next year. He’s got a contact that is registered with the NRL at around $1 million.
“The Storm are currently going through the process of trying to move players on so they can get their salary cap just right.
“That’s the likes of Brodie Croft and Will Chambers and a couple of others so that Smith can play.
“They’re stunned and they can’t believe that this is even an issue.”
The Storm look set to lose Brodie Croft and Will Chambers as they look to finalise their squad for 2020.
