Queensland’s 18th man Corey Norman has slipped into captain Daly Cherry-Evans’ halfback position and steered the ship at training on Wednesday morning as Cherry-Evans continues his ankle.

DCE only recently returned from injury with the Maroons taking no chances with their skipper.

Winger Dane Gagai has been “quarantined” for several days despite being seen at training on Tuesday night mingling with teammates.

Meanwhile the QLD Women’s side has drafted in Trevor ‘The Axe’ Gillmeister for extra defensive work ahead of their showdown with NSW on Friday night at North Sydney Oval.

Gillmeister has also replaced Allan Langer as a trainer for the second annual clash.
