Peta Hiku could be Blake Green’s new halves partner

Warriors general manager of football Brian Smith says the club is in no hurry to replace superstar Shaun Johnson who has been released to join Cronulla.

Speaking to stuff.co.nz, Smith said the Warriors would also consider moving utility back Peta Hiku into the halves to partner Blake Green.

“We’re aware of what’s available, but we’re not in any hurry. It’s a big jigsaw puzzle, it’s not just halfback, but other positions we could potentially strengthen if the right guys come along,” he said.

“Peta would be thought about there, but I don’t think any of us are thinking of it as a permanent move.”

The Warriors now have upwards of $1 million to spend on the open market and are considering spending the money elsewhere.

Meanwhile it’s been reported that it was the Brisbane Broncos players who pushed for Wayne Bennett’s sacking after it was revealed he was secretly planning for 2020 at South Sydney.

The Daily Telegraph says it was senior players who confronted Broncos officials and demanded Bennett be let go.
