The Canterbury Bulldogs have officially released star prop David Klemmer for the remainder of his contract to take up a five-year deal at the Newcastle Knights according to reports on Monday.

Klemmer’s deal is reportedly worth over four million dollars.

Canterbury were quick to confirm to reporters that they had signed Sydney Roosters enforcer Dylan Napa as his direct replacement.

“We have granted this release with the view that it is in Dylan’s best interests to secure his long-term future,” said Easts Group CEO Scott Bennetts.

“Dylan has been a passionate clubman, and he will always have many friends at the Roosters. We thank Dylan for his contribution to the Roosters over the years, and wish him every success in the future.”

Bulldogs coach Dean Pay said Napa was a great addition to his squad.

“Signing someone of Dylan’s toughness and ability is a major coup for the club. We really feel that we have got a high calibre footballer who will be a great addition to both our pack and our playing group as a whole.”

Klemmer joins fellow club favourites James Graham, Josh Reynolds and Moses Mbye to all recently leave the organisation.

More to come.
