Brisbane Broncos legend Sam Thaiday has revealed the exact moment he knew time was running out on his glittering career.
Speaking on Channel Nine’s 100% Footy, Thaiday says his decision was made long before round one.
“You want to play football forever, but what was weighing in the back of my mind was I really struggled through preseason training this year,” Thaiday said.
“Waking up at 5am to get there and train, I really found it hard to motivate myself to get through those things.
“You know you start kind of losing your love for the game because you’re not really enjoying the hardness of training anymore.
“And that’s where I saw myself needing to make a decision.”
Thaiday has represented Australia, Queensland and was part of Brisbane’s premiership-winning 2006 season.
