Is the World Club Challenge headed to Melbourne?

The World Club Challenge clash between Melbourne Storm and Leeds Rhinos could be headed to AAMI Park with League Express in England reporting that the Super League Champions are considering an agreement to play the match in Victoria.

The last WCC match to be played Down Under was played between the Sydney Roosters and Wigan Warriors at Allianz Stadium.

“A lot will depend on the discussions over the next few days,” Super League director Roger Draper said.

“We have pencilled in the weekend of February 24/25 for the World Club Challenge, which will effectively be week four of the season next year.

“We are going to have to make a decision on where it will be played, whether in Australia or England. Given that Headingley is being redeveloped, it may be taken away from there if it is played in England, although no plans have been drawn up yet.”
