Brisbane Coach Wayne Bennett has revealed that he wanted Benji Marshall to return to his beloved Wests Tigers to finish his career.
Marshall has found great form in 2017 as a utility at the Broncos but Bennett believes Marshall deserved to finish his career at the club where it all started.
“I encouraged him to go. I was keen for him to go. It was a good offer for him,” Bennett said.
“It’s his original club. He’s got a lot of history there and he was a great player for them.
“It’s a great way for him to finish his career.
“Last year nobody wanted him. Twelve months on at least he has got offers now.”
Marshall has become a mentor for the young Broncos playmakers and will play a similar role at Wests Tigers in 2018.
