They have James Graham, the Morris twins, Will Hopoate, Josh Reynolds and others. Experience everywhere. Yet on Tuesday the struggling Canterbury Bulldogs trundled out two-game rookie Marcelo Montoya to front the media.

Montoya has been in first grade for two seconds but was asked to answer questions in arguably the club’s toughest ever period. The kid done well.

“The best way to deal with a performance like that (against Manly) is to put it behind you and focus on the next game. You can’t dwell on a loss like that. There is plenty to work on and we‘ve reviewed what needs to improve,” he said.

The Campbelltown junior, who scored on debut against the New Zealand Warriors, thanked his teammates after an impressive start to his NRL career.

“First grade is very intense. I’m still adjusting, but with the senior boys in our side helping me along the way, it’s been a good journey so far,” Montoya added.

“I’ve been blessed to have played in the juniors and to be given an opportunity to play first grade at the Bulldogs.”

Meanwhile Wests Tigers captain Aaron Woods has rubbished reports he is on his way to the Bulldogs telling the Big Sports Breakfast that the first he learned of the switch was on television earlier this week.
