Roberts changes tune as star centre goes onto market

James Roberts is the latest star to become available on the open market after he declined a new contract from the Gold Coast Titans after it was revealed that his original $300,000 a season deal had been forged by a Titans official who has since resigned.

It’s a huge blow for the battling Titans franchise who have lost captain Nate Myles to Manly for 2016 and superstar playmaker Daly Cherry-Evans who earlier reneged on a deal to join Gold Coast.

“It is obviously disappointing we are in this situation as we viewed James as part of the future of this club,” Coach Neil Henry said.

“I’m sure he will concede that his improved form in 2015 is a testament to his hard work and the interest several people have taken in his welfare on and off the field which has enabled him to play his best football.

“I can only wish him continued success wherever he decides to play.”

Roberts recently stated that he had no urge to leave the club who had given him another chance after being sacked by both South Sydney and Penrith.

But now his plans have shifted with advisor Jeremy Donovan telling foxsports.com.au, “James will be exploring his options and make a decision based on what is best for him and his family,” Donovan told foxsports.com.au.”

Remarkably, Roberts turned down the upgraded Gold Coast offer despite not officially having any other offers on the table.
