Titans veterans ready to lead Gold Coast back to the promise land

Experienced Gold Coast winger David Mead says the Titans are desperate to find the form that once made them a playoffs contender and says staying fit is vital to their cause.

“I’m very determined. It’s been a long time since I played finals football,” Mead said.

“We want to get back to those results from our early days. As long as everyone stays fit we can do that.

“In the past few years I’ve been on the verge of the senior playing group but we’ve got a whole new squad and heaps of young guys so I consider myself one of the senior guys in the squad.

“It’s gone really quick. Time is flying.”

Mead is off contract at the end of 2016 and needs a big season to stave off the challenge of other wingers while returning hooker and inaugural starter for the Gold Coast in 2007 Nathan Friend says so many new faces isn’t such a bad thing.

“A lot of these guys have played together in junior grades which is great and there are just a few of us older guys that have got to slot ourselves in there,” he said.

“I don’t think we should have any dramas fielding a quality side and a very competitive one.”
