Taylor: We were always going to buy another hooker

Besieged Wests Tigers coach Jason Taylor has unequivocally shot down ongoing reports he and former skipper Robbie Farah can’t work together and said it was business as usual as pre-season got into full swing.

“As coach and player I’ve coached Robbie through plenty of drills this week and we sat down later in the week and just looked at some video of training from some of the stuff that he’d been doing and a couple of things that we could work on,” Taylor said on Sky Sports Radio.

“I’ve heard a lot of talk about that it’s untenable and one of us will have to go – it’s just not how it’s going to work.

“We’ll work together and we’ll get the best out of it, we’re both professionals.

“Robbie was given the opportunity to look around and if he ended up remaining then he would always remain and that’s where it’s at,” Taylor said.

“If Robbie stays, then Robbie will be in the plans and we’ll work together.

Taylor said that signing Matt Ballin from Manly-Warringah was also the right call.

“We were set to sign another hooker,” he added.

“If it wasn’t Matt Ballin, then we would have signed another hooker.

“With just Robbie and Manaia Cherrington there, we were always going to sign another hooker.”
