Manly official and club legend Peter Peters says while the Sea Eagles’ recruitment for 2016 has been supremely impressive, the new-look coaching staff headed by Trent Barrett, could make Manly an immediate premiership threat next season.
Writing for The Manly Daily, Peters went through a long line of new recruits and familiar Manly faces now in the support staff.
“Walk around the Sea Eagles training headquarters these days and you are likely to run into extremely fit ex- players who represent some of the greatest achievers in the game” Peters said.
“Head coach Trent Barrett is a Dally M medal winner and Test representative. His staff include the likes of John Cartwright (Penrith, NSW and Australia), Luke O’Donnell (Wests Tigers, Cowboys, Roosters, NSW, Australia), Steve Menzies (Manly, NSW, Australia), Mark Carroll (Penrith, Souths, Manly, NSW, Australia) John Hopoate (Manly, Wests Tigers, NSW, Australia, former Manly and English Super League players Chad Randall and Luke Williamson.
“Ex-Canberra Raider and Brisbane Bronco Anthony Siebold rounds off the coaching group. And topping the team off is Manly’s greatest player and original Immortal Bob Fulton.
“It is a coaching group that is unrivalled in the NRL and a tribute to Fulton and Barrett that it was put together in such a short time.
“I have watched the Barrett opening fortnight with interest. I expected it to be professional and it has been all that and more.
“The players have been glowing in their feedback.”
