England are now deep in camp ahead of their three test series against New Zealand and get a chance to see the Kiwis prepare when the 2008 World Cup Champions play Leeds Rhinos in a warm-up match.
Integral to the home nation’s chances is St. George Illawarra five-eight Gareth Widdop who says the parochial home fans could be the difference.
“It always makes it extra special when you get to go back home and play in front of your friends and family,” Widdop said.
“The English fans they are so passionate and the atmosphere is awesome so I’m really looking forward to it”.
Meanwhile former Parramatta champion Jarryd Hayne, now trailblazing a new path with the NFL San Francisco 49ers, has received a huge compliment from the franchises’ special teams coordinator Thomas McGaughey.
Quizzed on Hayne’s potential moving forward, McGaughey was high in praise.
“It’s up to Jarryd,” he said. “How much time is he willing to put in as far as studying the game?’ McGaughey said.
“And, just the maturation process, who knows this year? Next year, he might be leading the league in punt returns. Who knows?
“He has that kind of ability to get those big averages because he’s a big straight ahead, strong runner.
“And he does a good job making people miss in space. So, I mean, he has the ability to be a very good punt returner.”
