Is This the End of an Era for the Melbourne Storm?

2015’s finals series could be the end of an era for the Melbourne Storm with coach Craig Bellamy’s future up in the year with his contract expiring at the end of 2016.

There is no guarantee the Storm will be in the 2016 finals meaning Saturday night’s clash against North Queensland at AAMI Park could potentially be Bellamy’s last ever playoff match in charge of the Storm.

Former Melbourne halfback Brett Kimmorley says there would be an immediate effect if Bellamy wasn’t re-signed.

“I think where he’s got them to, the heartache they went through losing those grand finals, the rebuilding of the football club, they’ve now got new owners,” Kimmorley said on Fox Sports podcast Market Watch.

“I think he’d like to stay around and be part of the transition after the ‘big three’.

“I think his biggest challenge is not leaving the Melbourne Storm football club at the time of the big three departing, because that would nearly break the Melbourne Storm.

“If there’s no Craig Bellamy and there’s no ‘big three’, that puts an enormous dent in the Melbourne Storm.”

“When you speak to people who know Craig Bellamy they tell you that, one he doesn’t care about the money. He cares about the players and he cares about the future of the club he’s leaving behind.

“And I think he enjoys the coaching. I know you look at him and you think, that’s not enjoyable. The emotion he rides, that’s not enjoyable.

“But I think he really enjoys the challenge each week of trying to get the best out of the players.”
