Parramatta Ugly in Victory, Gutsy in Defence

Master coach and current Penrith GM Phil Gould has questioned Parramatta’s game plan after Sunday’s victory against Manly where the Eels continuously invited the home side back into the contest.

“When you are in front on the scoreboard, on a wet field, with the rain pelting down, all you need to do is kick early, kick long, chase hard, and tackle errors into your opponent” Gould wrote for The Sydney Morning Herald.

“Parramatta instead took the attitude of trying to win by 20 so they pushed the passes and off-loads, resulting in a number of unforced errors that kept inviting Manly to come and get them.

“Thankfully their defensive line showed great resilience. In fact, the Eels looked better without the ball than when in possession. Parramatta are a funny team. Overall I think they are a side with plenty of upside from a future perspective.”
