Cronulla’s veteran captain Paul Gallen is desperate to re-sign with the club but says a decision needs to be made.
“It’s not an issue for me really,” Gallen told Triple M on Saturday.
“I was just focused on that series but the issue for me at the moment is I haven’t got an NRL contract let alone worrying about Origin.
“Things have been on the cusp here of getting done for the past couple of months but [we] just haven’t gotten around to it.
“It’s getting to the stage now where we sort of need to start making decisions.”
This comes on the back of reports from The81stMInute’s Curtis Woodward who recently reported that the Sharks were refusing to pay Gallen’s asking price.
“The81stMinute understands Cronulla are willing to fork out around $450,000 and a job for life after football but offering more than $650,000 is their very last option” Woodward wrote.
“Cronulla officials are trying to reshape the franchise and have many young stars on their books and just signed premiership-winning pivot James Maloney from the Sydney Roosters.
“Throwing an exorbitant amount at an ageing warrior is less than suitable for CEO Lyall Gorman with the boss desperate to change the way the club is perceived.”
Since then the Sharks have also signed Chad Townsend from the New Zealand Warriors.
“It’s just gotta get done basically that’s what it comes down to but it’s been like this for a couple of months now and there’s got to come a time where there needs to be a decision made” Gallen continued.
“There needs to be a contract tabled and hopefully that’s next week and we can get it over and done with.”
