St George Illawarra have withdrawn from negotiations with former Melbourne Storm halfback Brodie Croft as a direct replacement for Junior Amone who has been scratched from the game due to an ongoing court case.

According to The Sydney Morning Herald, the Dragons were interested in Croft but English club Salford’s transfer fee request was too high.

Meanwhile Gold Coast Titans assistant coach Brett White has been hailed a hero after coming to the aid of a woman who was being assaulted in Surfers Paradise on Tuesday night.

White, who won a premiership with the Melbourne Storm, saw the assault taking place and immediately jumped from his car.

Arrival of FIFA World Cup and a Rugby Australia resurrection can be the wake up call the NRL desperately needs

“I just did what I think any bloke would do in that situation,” White told Wide World of Sports.

“I heard a woman screaming and I could see out the window a bloke was punching her, pulling her hair and kicking her in the head so I ran out and told the missus to call the cops. I came in behind him, put him in a choker hold and pinned him down for about five minutes until the cops arrived.”
