John ‘Chicka’ Ferguson enters Hall of Fame

With Indigenous Round 2022 in full swing – the81stminute.com is happy to welcome its newest entrant to our Hall of Fame in legendary winger John ‘Chicka’ Ferguson.

The South Grafton Rebels junior made his name at the Newtown Jets in 1981 where he quickly became a cult hero, going on to represent Australia three times in 1985 and New South Wales on 8 occasions.

After stints at Eastern Suburbs and a year in England with Wigan, Ferguson headed to the Canberra Raiders where he won premierships with the Green Machine in 1989 and 1990.

‘Chicka’ is also the oldest player to be selected to make his debut for the Blues at 34 years and and 348 days.

John Ferguson 1980-1990: 224 first grade games, 130 tries, 8 games for NSW, 3 for Australia, 2 premierships, 1 Challenge Cup win.
