Ryan Papenhuyzen was never getting a game after Blues won second Origin match: Peter Sterling

It appears livewire fullback Ryan Papenhuyzen will have to wait another year to make his State of Origin debut and that’s totally okay with New South Wales legend Peter Sterling as the Blues prepare to secure a third straight Origin series on Wednesday evening.

Many believed Papenhuyzen would have made his debut at some point during the series but after the Blues won Game II, Brad Fittler wasn’t going to make drastic changes.

“There’s no need to change,” Sterling told the Wide World of Sports.

“The interesting consideration again was the bench – If Ryan Papenhuyzen was available, do you put him in there to cover the backline?

“The key man there is Isaah Yeo who can slot into the centres if needed. Not ideally, but he will get a job done for you.

“He gives you the flexibility to have the other forwards there.”
