Wayne Bennett’s odd admission ahead of South Sydney’s preliminary final clash with Panthers

They are the NRL’s minor premiers and one of the great stories of season 2020 but Wayne Bennett has revealed he has watched less of the Penrith Panthers than any other team in the competition.

Uncle Wayne at his best.

Bennett’s comments come ahead of the preliminary final between the Panthers and his South Sydney Rabbitohs.

“To be honest, they’re the least-watched team I’ve watched probably all season,” Bennett said.

“We played them early in the season and we haven’t come across them again and really… honestly I don’t know.

“I’ll have to do that (video on Penrith), of course I will but I’m telling you honestly, I’ve hardly looked at them.

“… A lot of times you’ll play teams going through the rounds and you’re looking at vision and you’ll see other teams that they’re obviously playing.

“Well I haven’t seen a team that we played all season play Penrith (the previous week) … I just haven’t seen any of those games.”
