Todd Payten will be announced as the new North Queensland Cowboys coach in the coming days according after premiership-winner Paul Green was sacked back in July.

Payten is currently the interim Warriors coach and has won five of ten games – an amazing effort considering the hurdles the Warriors have had to overcome.

The Sydney Morning Herald reported on Sunday that Payten would return to Townsville where he had previously help a spot as an assistant coach.

Payten is expected to sign a three-year deal with North Queensland.
