Fox League desperately needs rugby league back on its screens with Foxtel drowning in debts of over $2 billion.

The subscription television service recently received an injection of $900 million from News Corporation who own 65 percent as it struggles to bring in new viewers.

The rugby league season and its ultra-impressive ratings on game days has long be Foxtel’s crown jewel.

An article on ABC News by Andrew Robertson suggested Foxtel were desperate to see the NRL return.

“Foxtel is sweating on the NRL leading the sporting world back onto the field, and viewers back to their screens,” Robertson wrote.

Robertson also noted the difference in price between Foxtel and other streaming services who have taken the market by storm:

“Foxtel prices compared with other streaming services are just too expensive.

“Netflix prices start at $9.99 a month.

“There are now 12 million Australians that have access to Netflix, which is more than double the 5 million who have access to Foxtel.

“Netflix has been in Australia five years, Foxtel 25 years.”
