Brisbane Broncos great Darius Boyd has announced 2020 will be his final season in the NRL at a presss conference on Friday.

Boyd, who won premierships at the Broncos and St George Illawarra, revealed the exact moment he knew this would be his swansong.

“It was at a dinner last month when a friend asked me if this would be my last season,” Boyd said.

“It had been in the back of my mind, but that one question made it feel urgent.

“I knew right then that this would be it. There were too many more reasons why this season should be my last than why it shouldn’t.

“So now it is time to tell you all that news. This season will be my last in rugby league.”

Broncos CEO Paul White paid tribute to the fullback.

“Darius is a Premiership winner and a legend of our club,” said White.

“We have all watched Darius mature and grow over the past 14 years in the NRL, and today he sits before you as one of our game’s great statesman and a fantastic ambassador for rugby league.”

The 32-year-old has played 317 NRL games and represented both Australia and Queensland.
