Rugby league Immortal Andrew Johns has floated the idea of going ahead with State of Origin this year even if the NRL season is shut down.

Speaking on Channel Nine’s 100% Footy on Monday night, Johns wondered if the elite players in the NRL could be kept in training to play the annual blockbuster.

“Even if worst case scenario they called the season off, could we play Origin?” he said.

“Keep some players in training and play the Origin.”
