Croker says several Raiders could have won Clive Churchill Medal despite grand final loss

Canberra Raiders captain Jarrod Croker believes several of his players could have won the Clive Churchill Medal despite his side’s loss to the Sydney Roosters in the grand final.

Raiders five-eigth Jack Wighton was announced as the winner after the 14-8 defeat but was greeted by heavy booing from Roosters fans.

“It was disappointing the reception he got especially after such a tough game and how well he played,” Croker said.

“But you can never take that away from Jacko. It was a disappointing night but I’m very proud of him.

“He was brilliant. I love playing with the bloke. I love the bloke. I’m just so proud of not only the way he’s transformed in the halves but how he’s become a leader of the team.

“He had a blinder tonight. He’s tough as nails. I wouldn’t have been surprised if a couple of our boys got called out for that medal.”
