Retired rugby league great Luke Lewis has revealed a couple of quirky methods that helped him claim the Clive Churchill Medal in the 2016 grand final.

Lewis has told the Talking with TK podcast that he cut out and kept a photo of Johnathan Thurston and his daughter and the Churchill Medal he’d just won the previous season.

There’s also a story about him in a steamy shower but we’ll let Luke explain.

“The Churchill story not too many people know about,” Lewis said.

“I had a photo of Johnathan Thurston and his daughter and I cut it out. It was a bit of a goal to try and achieve one day. It was an awesome photo and I just wanted a photo of me and my daughter with her holding the medal, knowing I’ve given everything I’ve got and I used to also write it in the steam in the shower every morning and every night, ‘Clive Churchill Medal, 2018’”.
