It is arguably the most sensational sacking in rugby league history. Amazingly, the Penrith Panthers have axed coach Anthony Griffin with immediate effect despite having another two years to run on his contract.
The Panthers sit just outside the top four only weeks away from the NRL finals.
Griffin has been replaced in the interim by Cameron Ciraldo.
There are some within the Panthers club that believed Griffin didn’t have the ability to take the first grade side to a premiership.
Panthers General Manager only recently denied any issues.
‘’I don’t know why Penrith attract such comment, I really don’t,’’ Gould told Wide World of Sport’s Six Tackles With Gus podcast.
‘’It’s (the rumours) been relentless but we just try to ignore it as much as we can and get on with what we’re doing.’’
More to come.
