Kezie Apps vs. Jason Taumalolo? Mad senator wants to see mixed gender sport

Get this! A senator within the Turnbull government wants to see competitions – like the National Rugby League – as mixed gender rather than separate male and female tournaments.

Senator Linda Reynolds wants to see females given the opportunity to test their abilities against the men.

We’re all for women’s sport and we love women’s rugby league as much as the next fan but who really wants to see Allana Ferguson or Kezie Apps get belted by Jason Taumalolo or a Nelson Asofa-Solomona?

We’re talking legitimate chance of death here, people.

“We no longer segregate women solely on their gender. Women now have the opportunity to compete on merit in the military, maybe its time to rethink the segregation of women in sport simply based on their gender and not on the talent,” Reynolds told Fairfax.

“How do you know if you don’t give it a go?”

“There are outstanding female athletes, why shouldn’t they have an opportunity? Of course we want things to be judged on merit, but what is merit?”

Sorry Linda, but it may be reasonable to try for a sport like cricket but not a high intensity, physical contact sport like league.

We knew politicians were crazy but this one has to be right up there.
