Wests Tigers Captain and Chairwoman have let the club down just when it needs them the most

Tim Simona was caught gambling against his own side and charged with fraud, coach Jason Taylor has been given his marching orders with daggers in the back, Kyle Lovett charged with drug possession and Mitchell Moses has signed with Parramatta and wants out immediately.

But wait there’s more.

According to reports, Wests Tigers captain Aaron Woods and star fullback James Tedesco also want to leave and are being courted by the Canterbury Bulldogs and Sydney Roosters.

If ever a club lacked leadership it’s the Wests Tigers.

And in a week where those so-called leaders needed to show solidarity – this was not the time for Captain Woods and Chairwoman Marina Go to sink ships with loose lips.

So let’s say for arguments sake that Woods is staying and is going to re-sign with the club. Let’s pretend that the guy with “born and bred in Leichhardt 2040 now play for wests tigers” on his Twitter page is sticking solid.

If this is the case than it’s not very wise of Woods to be airing his dirty laundry with a sworn enemy (currently) of Wests Tigers in former skipper Robbie Farah especially if Farah is the one that phoned him – mate or not.

“I spoke to ‘Woodsy’ and he said he had a bigger appreciation now for I went through for 18 months as captain of the club,” Farah said.

“He has been doing it now for a little bit and he said the last month has really worn him down, it’s really drained and affected him. He said he was only starting to realise now what I went through.”

No problems with any of that.

“I know how tough it is and I’m still in contact with a few of the boys,” Farah added.

“I spoke to Woodsy and he’s told me how tough it is. He said, mate, I don’t know how (you) went through it for 18 months, he’s had a month of it and it’s really been draining on him.”

Can you hear that?

Alarm bells.

And this in the last few days from Go. Speaking to rugbyleaguehub.com, Go made the outrageous claim that she was being targeted because she was a woman – not because the Wests Tigers are a mess.

“Because I am a woman. Let’s call it for what it is. Most of the commentary is plain ignorance,” Go said.

”Some rugby league journalists don’t fully understand the role of a board chair and think that I am in there running the business day-to-day, when in fact the board employs a CEO to do that.

“I have received criticism from a few circles in traditional rugby league land for being different to the old-style model of a rugby league club chairman and that’s fine with me.”

This has nothing to do with gender and the timing of her statement only hurts Wests Tigers.

If the Bulldogs had players on drug and fraud charges, sacked a coach, were 2-4 and on the verge of losing its best players, Ray Dib would be copping a hammering from everyone too. And so would Bulldogs CEO Raelene Castle. In the big scheme of things, Go has received the same amount of media attention as Wests CEO Justin Pascoe and everyone else.

And you can guarantee James Graham wouldn’t be calling Michael Ennis and telling him how shithouse things actually are.

Wests Tigers need direction, a purpose and people willing to do the hard yards and do their best by the team, their fans and its future.

With everything that’s happened at Wests Tigers this year, or just in the last few weeks alone, their captain and their chairwoman have let them down.
