RAGE AGAINST THE GUS

Apparently there was a “social media storm” yesterday during the Anzac Day clash between the Sydney Roosters and St George Illawarra Dragons. Cameras panned to two girls in the crowd who were chatting away with little interest in the game. Nine commentator Phil Gould quipped, ““The girls aren’t watching the footy, they don’t care. They’re talking about other things.” That was it. He was speaking about THOSE two girls. The Daily Telegraph ran a story with no less than six tweets from @LadiesWhoLeague who took umbrage to the comment from Gus. If you don’t know, Ladies Who League is run by Mary Konstantopoulos. She does a great job promoting the NRL and rugby league in general. Mary, I love ya, but this is nothing more than opportunism. To imply that Gould said that women don’t care about footy is careless.

WESTS TIGERS SIGNINGS CONTINUE

They may be losing Aaron Woods, James Tedesco and Mitchell Moses but the Wests Tigers and Coach Ivan Cleary are purring along in that big black, orange and white bus of his. According to reports on Wednesday, Kiwi International Ben Matulino will be joined at the club next year by Canterbury-Bankstown star Josh Reynolds. Who said they wouldn’t be able to attract players?

CANTERBURY ARE KIDDING THEMSELVES

How can a club ban their players from being selected in a representative fixture? That’s what the Bulldogs have done making their players unavailable for the final ever City vs Country in Mudgee. It’s disgraceful and disrespectful to fans out in the bush. Matthew Johns has called for Todd Greenberg and the NRL to stand those Canterbury players down from playing the following weekend. Good call.

KANGAROOS TEAM

How Blake Ferguson, Aaron Woods and Trent Merrin make the starting side for Australia is beyond me. There’s a plethora of guys ahead of them in my books.

NAS WILL BE TOP PROP IN NRL

He’s over 200 centimetres tall and weighs a whopping 125 kilograms. His name is Nelson Asofa-Solomona and he will be the best forward in the NRL very soon. He’s a monster and has lots of talent.

ANZAC DAY FOOTY RUINED

Thanks to Macarthur Tavern who brought my partner to tears yesterday by telling her she had to leave the pub whilst we were watching the football. According to their employees she’d had too much to drink despite the fact that the only thing that would make her look remotely intoxicated is that she was in immense pain from recent surgery. Only a few months ago my father-in-law and a friend (both in their sixties) were cut off at the same venue. The kicker in that one? That friend has a speech impediment and has trouble walking due to a stroke he had many years ago. Classy people at Macarthur Tavern.
