Slater could be back next week: Bellamy

Craig Bellamy says the Melbourne Storm could have legendary fullback Billy Slater back as early as next week.

The coach is keen to have Slater back but after missing two full seasons of football, Melbourne are taking their time with the veteran.

“He could be [back next week], or the week after, or the week after, or the week after that,” said Bellamy.

While Slater recovers, teammate Cooper Cronk may be on his way out.

According to a recent report, Cronk may well retire at the end of this season.

“At the moment, we’re not concerned about it. We’re concerned about training and our game on Friday” Bellamy added.

“If there’s any fact or truth about it, he’s done a wonderful job for this club for a long period of time. Whatever he’d like to do, I’d imagine that’s what he’ll do, and it’ll be with the club’s blessing.”
