Gould impressed by new Canterbury halves combination

Moses Mbye may struggle to reclaim his starting spot after a strong first outing from rookie Matt Frawley in Canterbury’s upset win over the Brisbane Broncos on Thursday night.

The Bulldogs pair of Mbye and Josh Reynolds have come under fire in recent times but former Bulldogs coach Phil Gould says he was impressed by the new combination of Reynolds and Frawley.

“New halfback Matt Frawley was tremendous on debut” Gould wrote for the Wide World of Sports.

“He was a real steadying influence on the Bulldog performance with his controlled passing and kicking game. He provided a nice contrast to the effervescent and spirited Josh Reynolds, who also contributed greatly to this win.”

Meanwhile Brisbane were their own worst enemy according to Gould.

“Once they got behind on the scoreboard, the Broncos really struggled to mount any sort of concerted come-back. Playing catch-up football is the game-clock ran down, only lead to more errors, which only further frustrated the Broncos into defeat.”
