JOHN SATTLER

One of the greatest South Sydney Rabbitohs to ever lace on a boot – John Sattler is one of the greats of the game and his heroics in the 1970 grand final are the thing of legend.

Early in the decider at the Sydney Cricket Ground against Manly, Sattler was blindsided by John Bucknall who crushed Sattler’s jaw. The rest is history. Sattler played the remainder of the match with a smashed jaw, helping Souths to a famous victory.

Sattler captained the Rabbitohs to four premiership wins in 1967, 1968, 1970 and 1971.

He captained his country and his state and was known as one of the fittest men to play in that era. He was also one of the toughest.
