EDDIE LUMSDEN

Eddie Lumsden is one of the greatest wingers rugby league has ever produced but things could have been much different.

Lumsden came to Sydney and joined Manly-Warringah in 1955 but after only four games was ruled ineligible to represent the club on residential grounds.

After securing a job with St George, he moved to the Dragons the following season.

Over the following decade, Lumsden played in and won nine grand finals in the club’s historic premiership run. The Kurri Kurri junior played for Australia on 15 occasions and New South Wales 19 times.

His final game was the 1966 grand final where the Saints defeated Balmain 23-4.

In retirement, Lumsden became an Australia selector and spent fourteen years in the job.
